He scored 1,092 runs (ave 8.66), captured 758 wickets (ave 20.24) and held 38 catches. In 43 Tests for the West Indies he recorded 361 runs (ave 8.20), 158 wickets (ave 28.98) and 9 catches. The vast bulk of his games were played on behalf of the West Indies (101), Commonwealth teams (39) and Lancashire (33). Curiously, he played only three times for his native Trinidad, and such was the irregularity of first-class cricket in the Caribbean in those days that he never played against Barbados, British Guiana or the so-called Smaller Islands. At his peak, in the early 1950s, Ramadhin was one of the most feared bowlers in the world because of his steadiness of length and line and his ability to turn the ball both ways without any appreciable change of action. His best performance was 8/15 against Gloucestershire in 1950, and he twice took as many as 13 wickets in one match. He captured 10 wickets or more in a match 15 times and claimed 5 wickets or more in a single innings on no fewer than 51 occasions. Ramadhin established several West Indian bowling records, some of which still remain intact. Included in this number are: his match analyses of 11/70 v Glamorgan in 1957; 13/51 v Gloucestershire in 1950; 10/117 v Leicestershire in 1950; 13/47 v Oxford University in 1957; 11/155 v Somerset in 1950; 10/97 v Warwickshire in 1957; 10/102 v Victoria in 1960/61; and his innings analyses of 8/15 v Hampshire in 1950; 6/57 v Somerset in 1950, 7/43 v Warwickshire in 1957; and 5/37 v Victoria in 1960/61. In addition, his 135 wickets in 1950 has not yet been approached by a West Indian bowler on tour in England, and his 40 wickets in New Zealand in 1955/56 is still a West 39
