Dissatisfied with the performances of their charges, the Committee decided to rebuild the county team and invited Ramadhin to participate in this process of reconstruction after he had bowled so brilliantly for Radcliffe in the Central Lancashire League in 1963. He played in 26 first-class matches this summer, capturing 92 wickets at reasonable cost (22.33), but the county, which had finished 15th in 1963, was able to move up only one spot in the final standings in 1964. Ramadhin began in excellent form taking 5 wickets in an innings four times in his first six games and the county awarded him his cap after he had bowled particularly well against the touring Australians in early June. His greatest personal triumph came at Leeds in early August when, in a losing cause, he claimed 8 Yorkshire wickets in a single innings. He also moved past two notable milestones this season. On 22 June, he claimed his 700th wicket in first-class cricket when he caught Charles Lee for 20 off his own bowling in Derbyshire’s first innings. It was his 162nd first-class match. Ramadhin also exceeded 1,000 runs while scoring 10* against Surrey at Southport in July. It had taken him 168 games to do so. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 152.
