Famous Cricketers No 73 - Sonny Ramadhin
the inability of the hosts to press home their advantage after having won the first two Tests handily. Ramadhin was again at his best in Barbados (7/121 from 90 overs), where he had bowled so effectively against the Indians the year before. He was also very steady at Georgetown in the third Test, taking 6/113 from 67 searching overs. That effort, however, was insufficient as England won the match by nine wickets. At the end of the series, Ramadhin (with 88) had become only the second West Indian bowler, following Valentine (100), to exceed 75 wickets in Test cricket. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 76. He again represented the Commonwealth in what had almost become an annual fixture against an England XI. As usual, he made a fine contribution to his team’s triumph by bowling effectively in both innings. It was a close contest in which Bruce Dooland shone both with the bat and the ball and Frank Worrell batted well. 22
