Ably led by Frank Worrell, the tourists maintained an unbeaten record on the sub-continent, winning 13 of their 27 first-class matches and drawing 14. They also won the unofficial Test series 2-0, thanks largely to Worrell’s excellent all-round play. Not quite as successful on the matting strips as he had been in England, Ramadhin claimed only 79 wickets (ave 19.65) in 20 matches although he captured a wicket with his very first ball in India and proceeded to extract figures of 6/23 from his first effort there. Ramadhin missed two of the five ‘Tests’ through injury and took only 15 wickets in the series at a cost of almost 29 runs each. In only his 24th first-class match, however, he claimed his 150th wicket. Somewhat curiously, he did not effect his first c and b dismissal until his 40th first-class match, when he removed Mushtaq Ali in that fashion in the Commonwealth’s fifth unofficial Test against India in February 1951. This was the same match in which he earned his 200th wicket when he bowled Madhusudan Rege in India’s first innings. His batting showed signs of improvement as he lifted his career average to 7.23 runs per innings, and the 19 he made against Ceylon at Colombo in his 41st match was Ramadhin’s best score up to that point. 13
