It now saw Cowdrey in unfamiliar territory – no longer an England player, indeed not even assured of his place in the Kent side. He was generally omitted from limited-overs matches, despite a magnificent hundred, the first in the competition, at Lord’s in the Benson and Hedges Cup. In mid June he hit a period of consistent first-class form, finishing the season with just over a thousand runs. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 605.
