Barbados defeated British Guiana in two matches at Bridgetown before losing a close encounter with the touring Australians. The fast bowler, Frank King (8/54), simply demolished the South American visitors in the opening game and Sobers registered his maiden first-class hundred (104 not out) in the second. Goddard did not perform very well with the bat, but his bowling was tight. He conceded only 38 runs in 24 overs against the Guyanese. Against Australia later in the year, Goddard played well enough to suggest that he could still make a contribution to Caribbean cricket. He scored 88 vital runs in two innings without losing his wicket and forced the visitors to struggle for victory on the last day when he conceded only 32 runs from 22 testing overs. The highlight of the match was a magnificent century (132) by Weekes who shared an important stand of 112 runs with Atkinson (78) when Barbados (at 102/4) found themselves on the ropes on the opening day. This was the closest the Australians came to defeat on this triumphant tour. They swept all before them, winning the Test series 3-0. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 83.
