Gomez, with 216 not out, established what was then a record for the Queen’s Park Oval. But Goddard and Worrell were the stars of the tournament, each registering his maiden first-class hundred. In the second match, they shared two fine and invaluable partnerships. Coming together in the first innings at 78/4, they led a marvellous recovery with a stand of 111. This permitted the tourists to score 452, one of their best performances at Port-of-Spain. Worrell’s contribution was a masterful 188. In the second innings, after another disastrous start (56/4), they steered Barbados to safety with a partnership of 133.
