He distinguished himself in his first game at Adelaide by running out Bradman for 76. In the return match at Melbourne he made his first Shield century, 108 in 169 minutes. Altogether he scored 298 runs at an average of 29.80 and held four catches but, suprisingly, he was never called upon to bowl not even in South Australia’s innings of 610 at Melbourne. This game proved significant in that it was the first time Miller had been put on to bowl seriously and he took his first wicket in first-class cricket, that of K.L.Ridings caught by wicket keeper Don Tallon.
