England won the final Test at Kennington Oval after four draws in the first four matches. In the Test matches, Miller performed only moderately by his own high standards scoring 223 runs at an average of 24.77 and taking ten wickets at 30.30. He did not bowl at all in the First Test at Trent Bridge where he scored 55 in the first innings helping Australia reach 243-4 before they collapsed to 249 all out. At Lord’s he made his only century of the series, 109, before falling to Wardle for the third time in four Test innings. He did little at Old Trafford in the Third Test but at Headingley in the fourth match he nearly bowled Australia to victory sending down forty-seven overs in England’s second innings to take four for 63. Hassett may have blundered in not asking Miller to bat in the second innings when Australia were chasing 177 to win and retain “The Ashes”. At Kennington Oval Miller made only 0 and 1 and took two wickets for 89 runs. In other tour games Miller scored 1,210 runs at an average of 63.68 and took 35 wickets at 20.28 and his overall performances earned his selection as one of Wisden ‘s “Five Cricketers of the Year". He opened the tour with a blaze of runs, 220 not out at Worcester, 42 at Leicester and 159 not out at Bradford. Later in the tour he made his highest score to date 262 not out at Kingston-upon-Thames against Combined Services. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 148.
