He appeared in thirteen games altogether including all five Test Matches and he scored 577 runs at an average of 38.46 and took forty four wickets at 16.54. Australia easily won the Test series by four games to nil. Miller soon got into his stride taking five for 40 in South Africa’s first innings of the First Test in only his third game of the tour. He took twelve more wickets in the Tests including four for forty two at Port Elizabeth in the final Test. In between he took one of the best analyses of his career so far, 6-35 against Natal at Pietermaritzburg. As a batsman he scored 246 runs in the Tests at 41.00 figures that placed him only in sixth place in the Australian batting such was the strength of the squad. His top score was 84 in the Fourth Test at Johannesburg. He made one century on the tour, 131 against Eastern Province at Port Elizabeth, but with four Australians averaging more than 55 runs per innings getting more runs was not a great priority for him. His performances certainly proved, if proof were needed, that he should have been one of those originally selected. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 98.
