Most people would be more than happy to return figures like these! He made only one century, a massive 170 in 181 minutes at Sydney against South Australia hitting three sixes and twenty four fours in a powerful display. He had now moved to Sydney and was playing in the New South Wales State side opening the bowling with Lindwall. It was rare, indeed, that the pair failed to secure an early breakthrough in the opposition’s innings. India toured Australia this season and were outclassed in the Test matches as England had been the previous year. Miller was only required to bat five times and made 185 runs at an average of 37 with a highest score of 67 in the Adelaide Test. He bowled 72 overs taking nine wickets at 24.77. In the first two Tests Bill Johnston opened the bowling with Lindwall but Miller was opening the attack from the Third Test on and he bowled Sarwate and Sen with consecutive deliveries at Adelaide. A highlight of the season was Bradman’s hundredth century in first-class cricket which he scored at Sydney in the match between an Australian XI and the Indians. Miller was his partner when he reached this milestone, scoring 86 himself in the course of a stand of 252 with Bradman. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 53.
