It also marked the start of his magnificent Test career and his association with his great fast bowling partner Ray Lindwall. All four matches played resulted in innings victory for the Australians who were much too strong for the opposition. Miller began with a century, 139, against Auckland in an Australian score of 579. His first Test match brought him an innings of 30 in an Australian score of 199-8d which was good enough to win the match by an innings and 103 runs. In New Zealand’s second innings he took the wickets of Hadlee and Scott in six overs for six runs. It was a gentle pipe- opener for the Australians before England visited Australia in 1946/47.
