His sixth hundred of the season, 125 not out against Nottinghamshire, was his 149 th first-class hundred and took him level with Herbert Sutcliffe as Yorkshire’s leading century maker. But it was compiled at a dreadfully slow rate. His highest score of the season was 184 against Worcestershire and he shared an opening partnership of 351 with Moxon. This was the highest partnership of his career and Yorkshire’s best since Holmes and Sutcliffe added 555 in 1932. He also “carried his bat” for Yorkshire for the eighth time, making an unbeaten 55 against Nottinghamshire. Boycott’s unbeaten 103 against Warwickshire made him the seventh player to score a 100 hundreds for his County and in a rain-ruined match against the touring Australians, his last against the old enemy, he made an unbeaten 52. Once again he headed Yorkshire’s batting averages and scored over a 1000 runs in a season for the 26th time, to take him level with Jack Hobbs. This has been bettered only by Grace and Woolley (28 times) and Cowdrey and Mead (27 times). Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 576.
