Famous Cricketers No 69 - G. Boycott
1974 In his benefit season Boycott enjoyed mixed fortunes. He scored six first-class hundreds, with two of these in the same match, the re-introduced “Test Trial”. With Yorkshire he finally appeared to have found a regular opening partner in Richard Lumb, with whom he shared four century opening partnerships during the season. After an unsuccessful first Test match against India he withdrew from the Test team, perhaps disillusioned not to be offered the England captaincy. It was to be three years before he again appeared for England. In the next first-class match he scored 149 not out against Derbyshire and maintained his good form throughout the rest of the season. In the final match he made an unbeaten 142, his first hundred against Surrey. Once again he headed Yorkshire’s batting averages. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 322.
