Famous Cricketers No 69 - G. Boycott

1973/74 - MCC in the West Indies Boycott began the tour by scoring an unbeaten 261 against the President’s XI, with 1 six and 29 fours. This was to remain the highest score of his first-class career. He added 252 for the first wicket with Denis Amiss with whom he now formed a formidable opening partnership. He also made an unbeaten 133 against Guyana, this time adding 191 for the first wicket, again with Amiss. In the Test Matches his 93 in the second innings of the first match failed to save England from defeat, despite an opening stand of 209 with Amiss. In the final match, however, he scored 99 and 112, with no other England batsman reaching 50 in either innings. This marathon batting effort, along with Greig’s inspired bowling, enabled England to win the match by 26 runs and share the series with the West Indies. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 312.
