In the middle of May five successive innings brought a paltry total of just 10 runs, including a “pair” against Kent at Bradford. Just over two weeks later Boycott scored 246 not out against India in the first Test match, the start of a scoring spree that netted 584 runs in four innings, three of them unbeaten. Boycott’s 246 against India remained his highest Test match score. He shared century partnerships with Barrington and Graveney and one of 252 with D’Oliveira for the fourth wicket. The selectors promptly dropped him for the second Test to show their disapproval of his slow scoring, the first hundred having taken five hours to complete. In the County Championship he scored steadily, an unbeaten 220 against Northamptonshire and, earlier in the season, 102 against Glamorgan, being his highest scores. He also scored 128 for Yorkshire against the touring Pakistanis. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 143.
