In the first match at Bombay he made 156 and added 185 with J.H.Parsons for the third wicket and with the captain, F.G.Travers, added 106 for the fifth wicket. To add insult to injury he then took 7-56 in the Hindus first innings. Against the Parsees he made 183 in five hours and fifty minutes with one six and 12 fours.
