This year he had great success against the ‘big hitters’ of the day. His best analysis came in his second match: 14-141 (7-78 & 7-63) against Gloucestershire at Bristol. Gilbert Jessop, one of his ‘rabbits’, fell twice in this match. The next game against Somerset at Taunton gave him 12-182 (5-115 & 6-67) and saw Sammy Woods dismissed twice and his 13-96 against Leicestershire at Leicester gave him both C.J.B.Wood and A.E.Knight ‘doubles’. Against Gloucestershire in the return match at Hull he dismissed Jessop twice more in taking 12-86 in 49.2 overs. Nonstop success this year saw him sign off with 8-55 against Kent in late August and 12-159 for the Players against the Gentlemen at Scarborough. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 103.
