ABOUT THE AUTHOR Barry Rickson is a retired English teacher who was born in Stockport and educated at Stockport Grammar School and Manchester University. He played for the English Universities XI at cricket and also played much club cricket in Worcestershire and Cheshire. He is a Life Member of Lancashire and in addition to being a member of the ACS he has been Honorary Secretary of the Council of Cricket Societies for the past ten years. In addition to Hedley Verity in the ACS Famous Cricketers series, he has written several articles for Cricket Lore and has been President of Bramhall CC, the 2001 winners at Lord’s of the ECB National Club Cricket Championship, for many years. Outside cricket his great interests are travel (all three sons live abroad), football, English Literature and Twentieth Century History.
