Lillywhite was one of the Eleven. On January 18, 1872 he was appointed Secretary of the USEE, whose principal drawing card was W.G.Grace. The figures below are taken from matches published in Scores and Biographies . As with similar statistics for George Parr and John Wisden in this series, we are very aware that much more research is required into the details of the odds matches played by the professional wandering elevens. In the case of Lillywhite the data ceases in 1878. The USEE and some of its rivals continued for several more years in some form and this is another area for further research. Despite these shortcomings, a major part of Lillywhite’s cricket career would be missing if we did not include such data as we have. In the statistics for both Wisden and Parr bowling averages were given, but in the period involving Lillywhite, very few bowling analyses were printed in Scores and Biographies (yet another area for future research!); no such bowling details are given therefore.
