They had two early defeats and two at the end of the season. In between they had a run of a dozen matches without losing. It was, in some ways, a preamble to the successes of next year. John Gunn again achieved the double, Iremonger and Jones made over a thousand runs each, while Wass and Hallam took 180 championship wickets between then at just under 18 runs each. Oates was reliability itself behind the stumps, the fielding was as keen as ever and the main batsmen were ably supported by those further down the order. Arthur Owen was consistent with the bat, making 50 or more on 15 occasions and averaging a little more than 43. His catching was excellent, taking his highest tally in a season so far. Arthur Owen led his county to a win against MCC. He made the only score of over 50 giving a display of free hitting in cold conditions. Against Leicestershire, he was given out first ball. This was a rare event in the life of Arthur Owen. In their first encounter with the newly prompted Northamptonshire, Notts proved to be far too strong a side. On the first day, the home side were dismissed by Wass and John Gunn for 56 and the visitors made 282 for 5. On the second day, Jones batted down the order and made 77 in 70 minutes, hitting 8 fours. Jones fielded brilliantly in the slips and took six catches in the match. 52
