ABOUT THE AUTHOR Hugh David Garrod was born in 1943, educated at Hengrove Comprehensive, Bristol and Dover Boys’ Grammar. He went to Redland Teachers’ Training College, Bristol and has taught in Worcestershire, Swindon, then Bedfordshire since 1970, with two Primary School Headships in Bedfordshire. He has been a member of Gloucestershire CCC since 1957 and a member of Dunstable and District Local History Society since its foundation in 1991, being Chairman since 1999. Since 1980 he has been a member of the congregation of the Priory Church of St. Peter, Dunstable and has at various times been a member of PCC, Deanery Synod and Churchwarden. He is currently historian of the Priory. He has been a member of the ACS since the mid-1970s.
