Famous Cricketers No 62 - Ken Barrington
Returning to the Oval, Herbert Strudwick, the former Surrey coach, travelled up from Brighton at his own expense, to point out technical faults in his batting that he had spotted on television. For Surrey against the New Zealanders he scored 70 and 129 not out, but he was dropped from the England team for the Lord’s Test match. He was suprisingly restored to the team for the final New Zealand Test because of injuries to Boycott and Dexter and scored a sound 163 in a stand of 369 with J.H.Edrich. Against South Africa he scored 91 in a drawn match, but when South Africa won at Trent Bridge he scored only 1 in each innings. In the final Test, he scored 73 in the second innings when rain prevented England winning to square the series. Barrington appeared in his only one-day final at Lord’s when Surrey were comprehensively beaten by Yorkshire. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 411.
