A dramatic match at Lord’s was drawn with plucky defence by Barrington in the second innings culminating with Cowdrey batting in the last over despite a broken arm. England won at Edgbaston handsomely although Barrington had a poor game being dismissed twice by Sobers playing on to balls outside the off stump. England lost at Headingley, at one stage in the first innings being 34-5 following a devastating spell by Griffith. In the Oval Test match, Barrington attacked Griffith but fell in a trap when, expecting another bouncer, he was bowled by a fast swinging yorker.
