Promoted to no 3, he scored his first Test century in Bridgetown. In the infamous Second Test at Port-of-Spain, spoilt by crowd riots, Barrington scored his second Test century followed by 49 in the second innings to assist England to win by 256 runs. It was in this series that excessive short pitched bowling by fast bowlers came to the fore and Barrington predicted that one day crash helmets would be worn by batsmen. The remaining Test Matches were drawn so England won the series with Barrington averaging 46.66. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 210.
