Famous Cricketers No 61 - Wes Hall
2-0 and lost only 1 of their 10 first-class matches. Sobers performed brilliantly again and Gibbs gave further proof of his excellence as a right-arm off-break bowler. Hall captured only 16 wickets, including 8 in the Tests. He thus extended his West Indian record to 174 but Gibbs, in the meantime, had reached the 150-wicket milestone in 34 Tests to eclipse the West Indian mark of 35 that Hall had so recently established. In his first match of the campaign, his 133th overall, Hall achieved his 2,000th run in first-class cricket. He also shared two fine partnerships with Sobers. At Calcutta, in the second Test, they added 72 runs for the eighth wicket and at Madras, in the third, an invaluable 80 for the ninth wicket which ensured a first innings lead for the tourists.
