Lionel Tennyson again took a party of cricketers for a pre-season visit to Jamaica. A natural selection, Tyldesley began in commanding form but his success was most unfortunately cut short. After opening with 106 in a non first-class match against a Jamaica Colts XVI and following up with centuries in each of the two games against Jamaica, he was involved in a motoring accident which prevented him taking any further part in the tour. Early reports stated that he was travelling along with fellow professionals Jack O’Connor (Essex), Dennis Sullivan (Glamorgan) and Bert Lock (Surrey) on Sunday, February 27th when the car skidded and overturned; they were en route to Montego Bay for the next game but Tyldesley’s internal injuries were serious enough to rule him out for some months.
