Famous Cricketers No 59 - Aubrey Faulkner
1914 – in England Faulkner made only one appearance in 1914, turning out for H.D.G.Leveson Gower’s XII against Oxford University XII at Eastbourne. Because of the First World War, which started a little over two months later, that was to be his last first-class match for six years. He marked the occasion with a fluent innings of 70 and a return of 5/51 in the students’ second innings. Both he (7/80) and fellow-South African Sid Pegler (7/90) took seven wickets in the match.
