At the end of the English season, he was invited to play in two matches during the Scarborough festival - for the Gentlemen against the Players and for Lord Londesborough’s XI against the MCC teamwhich was soon to leave for its tour to Australia. His most notable performances in these games was an undefeated 84 in the second innings against the Players and figures of 4/36 in the MCC first innings. His batting saved the Gentlemen from defeat, when, facing a target of 324, they were reduced to 19/4, Faulkner playing aggressively to ensure a draw.
