ABOUT THE AUTHOR Brian Bassano was born at East London, South Africa but moved to the UK in 1961. He played club cricket in Sussex and for Sussex Martlets, representing Sussex Clubs against CCC in 1966. Brian returned to South Africa in 1966 to see the touring Australians and stayed. He was Secretary of Border Cricket Union and co-founder of the multiracial Rainbow Cricket Club in defiance of the apartheid laws. He worked on the SA Cricket Union Development Committee to promote cricket in black townships. Brian has been a cricket writer since 1970 and a radio commentator for SABC for 12 years. Books published include South Africa in International Cricket 1888-1970 (made into a 30-part TV series by SABC) and History of South African Cricket Vol IV 1947-60 . He emigrated to Tasmania in 1988.
