Six teams took part, and Transvaal won all five of their matches (one being a walk-over when Griqualand West were unable to field a team). Faulkner started with 6/62 and 3/33 against Natal, helping his side to a seven-wicket win. After a quiet game against Orange Free State, he excelled against old rivals Western Province, taking 2/56 and 4/58 and making 95 in a convincing win by an innings and 39 runs. Coming in with his side in trouble he held the innings together, and the eventual total of 366 was in no small way due to his effort. He followed with 75 against Eastern Province, whose attack was headed by Ernie Vogler (5/125), who had taken 6/12 and 10/26 against Griqualand West a week before and was to capture 6/34 and 8/24 against Orange Free State in the following game. It came as no surprise at the close of the Tournament that Faulkner was selected in the South African team to tour the United Kingdom in the forthcoming northern summer. At the end of the season a team of Transvaal cricketers, captained by Ivor Difford, toured the Cape Province, playing three matches against Border and one against Western Province. Faulkner took the opportunity to register his maiden first-class century in the second match, scoring 119 against Border in King William’s Town. Another highlight came his way in the match with Western Province when he took 6/37, including a hat-trick in the first innings – five wickets falling to him in two overs as the home side crashed from 64/2 to 68/7.
