He played in eleven matches scoring just 359 runs at an average of 19.94 and bowling 183.4 overs to take twelve wickets at 31.83. These figures included his last first-class fifty, an innings of 64 against Sussex at Brentwood. His best bowling came in the match against Leicestershire at Leicester when he took 3-10 in eleven overs. His final first-class figures of 28641 runs and 2082 wickets are the best for any post-war English all-rounder and with fewer first-class matches being played since Bailey’s day it seems unlikely that these achievments will be equalled in the foreseeable future.
