They were generally outclassed by an England team that had not lost a Test Series since 1950/51 and which triumphed 4-0 in the 1958 rubber. Bailey played in four of the Tests missing the fourth game at Old Trafford when, with the series already won, the selectors chose a few prospects with the winter tour of Australia in mind. He batted only four times scoring 39 runs and bowled only 66 overs in the Series to take seven wickets at 13.28. Really the Series was a mismatch and poor preparation for the sterner examination that awaited England in Australia. In the 47
