A series of five Victory “Test” Matches was quickly arranged with the Australian Services side stationed in this country. Altogether, eleven matches were granted first-class status in the season and the Surrey left-hander played in five of them, including the memorable England v Dominions encounter at Lord’s. He scored over 2000 runs, which included five centuries and twelve fifties and was generally reckoned to be the leading left-handed batsman in the country.
