Famous Cricketers No 56 - Laurence Barnard Fishlock

1936/37 – M.C.C. in Australia and New Zealand G.O.B.Allen’s side failed to regain the Ashes despite winning the first two Test matches by very convincing margins. The team suffered from a number of injury problems and had difficulty in providing a satisfactory opening partnership. Fishlock, although not coming anywhere near selection for the Test side, managed to appear in as many as ten of the twelve other first-class matches played in Australia. He was tried as an opening batsman in three of these games. He suffered a broken-bone injury in his hand in the return match against South Australia in January. In all, he made only one score of over fifty on the tour. After a short visit to New Zealand, where they played three first-class matches but no Test matches, the tourists returned home via the United States of America, where they visited Hollywood Film Studios.
