He played in only 14 matches scoring 600 runs at an average of 28.57. It was only the sixth time in 22 English seasons since 1949 that he had failed to reach 1000 runs. He played an outstanding innings against Warwickshire at Gloucester. Gloucestershire had followed on 177 runs behind and were struggling at 71-3 when Milton went in to bat. He batted for six and a half hours scoring 149 not out, his fiftieth century for Gloucestershire. The next highest score was 38. It was his only century in a season which saw him reach the milestone of 30,000 career runs. He did not play in the Gillette Cup and appeared in only four John Player League games scoring 110 runs at an average of 55.00 with a highest score of 68 and taking two catches.
