Famous Cricketers No 55 - Arthur Milton
1967 Milton enjoyed a wonderful season in 1967, scoring over 2000 runs for the only time in his career, including seven centuries, also the most he scored in any one season. He finished sixth in the national batting averages with 2,089 runs at an average of 46.42. No one scored more runs and, of those above him in the averages, only Boycott had as few not out innings. He was still opening the Gloucestershire batting and his score of 125 not out against Glamorgan at Lydney was made out of 276-8dec whilst his 138 against Warwickshire at Coventry was made out of 253-9dec. He topped the Gloucestershire averages by more than 17 runs per innings and shared many good opening partnerships with Ron Nicholls. He also found time to take another 39 catches. In his fortieth year he was playing as well as ever. In the Gillette Cup, Milton scored 45 and took one catch in a second round defeat by Lancashire. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 489.
