This included two not out hundreds against Kent at Bristol where he steered the side to victory with a boundary off the last ball of the match. His other centuries were both noble efforts; 100 out of 232 all out against Warwickshire at Edgbaston and 105 out of 227 all out against Leicestershire at Ashby-de-la-Zouch. His innings of 65 not out against Hampshire at Bournemouth steered his side to victory in that match. At the end of the season he hit 92 for A.E.R.Gilligan’s XI against the touring Pakistan team and, altogether that season, he hit 1,617 runs at an average of 43.70 to put himself in sixteenth position in the national averages. He bowled 50 overs during the season, taking six wickets, and took 42 catches which included a haul of seven in the match against Lancashire at Cheltenham. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 370.
