He started and finished the season in fine style, getting hundreds, again taking the Queensland attack apart with 119 in 149 minutes with 14 fours, 49 of them on a rain-affected wicket. The Sydney Morning Herald stated he was in “amazing touch”. Other hundreds included a chanceless 106 in 146 minutes against South Australia with 10 fours, and 122 for an Australian XI against Western Australia in 140 minutes, which contained 2 sixes and 15 fours. Another superb innings was a brisk 83 in 70 minutes for an Australia XI against Tasmania, it included 1 six and 12 fours, and he shared in a fourth wicket partnership of 113 with Bradman in only 50 minutes.
