He performed the hat trick once in first-class cricket, against Gloucestershire at Bristol (Greenbank) in 1922. Bowling unchanged throughout a match He bowled unchanged throughout a match three times, these being the only occasions on which the feat has been performed for Leicestershire to date in first-class cricket: Geary 10/68, Astill 10/65 v Gloucestershire Bristol (Greenbank) 1922 Geary 11/61, Astill 8/35 v Glamorgan Leicester 1925 Geary 9/62, H.A.Smith 11/91 v Northamptonshire Northampton 1935 Geary in League Cricket He was contracted to play for Nelson C.C. in the Lancashire League for the seasons of 1920 and 1921, while he was recuperating from his war-time injuries. Fred Hassall, the old Leicestershire professional, joined him as coach at Nelson for 1921. Whilst his bowling figures were good - particularly in the first year - his batting was still rather rustic.
