Leicestershire fell to fifteenth place, mainly because Geary and Smith were not quite so effective as before. Nevertheless he still had his very good days. The best were undoubtedly his efforts in his own second benefit match against Warwickshire at Hinckley, when he followed six for 36 in the first innings with seven for 7 in the second. The disastrous personal effect of these performances have already been mentioned! His highest score, and only fifty, was 62 against Lancashire, when he put on 113 for the seventh wicket with Astill.
