In the first, at Trent Bridge, he scored a belligerent 53 before being stumped, and put on 101 for the seventh wicket with Hendren. He also took four wickets in the match. The Second Test, at Lord’s, was “Verity’s Match”. Geary did not take a wicket, was injured, and did not return to the Leicestershire team until late in July. That was to be his final Test Match. He bowled well for Leicestershire, taking 59 wickets cheaply, and his best performance was ten wickets, five in each innings, against Gloucestershire. He also made his final appearance for the Players v. Gentlemen at Folkestone at the end of the season. His second innings 109 was made in even time, and contained 16 fours. Wisden states that “Geary drove and pulled splendidly”. This was his last representative match of any sort; thereafter his cricket was confined to Leicestershire matches. 60
