Famous Cricekters No 53 - George Geary

only half the overs bowled in the previous season, he gradually faded from the attack. Geary did not appear in the last six matches, and retired at the end of the summer to become coach at Charterhouse. Remaining there for 21 years, he was persuaded to serve in a similar position at Rugby for the following eleven years. So began a long second career for which George Geary, the man, was admirably fitted. Sadly, in his declining years, he was to suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease, and spent the final period of his life in care. He died on March 6 1981. 1912 Geary made an unspectacular start to his county career. He batted at number eleven in all five of his matches - a position he rarely occupied subsequently. His bowling was already economical, and even at this stage he was recognised as a young bowler of much promise. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 1.
