Famous Cricketers No 52 - Malcolm Marshall
opponents and in 1986 produced a similar performance with 66 and 2-18 in eight overs in another West Indies victory. His most consistent batting spell came with 51, 35 and 41 in three consecutive innings for Hampshire in July 1987 but his average never reached much above 15 per innings. By the time of his Benson & Hedges success with Hampshire, Marshall’s West Indies career had finished. He subsequently appeared in limited overs matches in South Africa and was a member of the unfortunate Natal side which lost a Benson & Hedges Final at Durban by one run, nine months after Hampshire’s victory. In the following season he enjoyed a run of good scores for Natal in the same competition, averaging almost 30 for the season but Natal again lost the final by a far greater margin. His limited overs career ended in South Africa in 1996 while in the year before that he had appeared five times on the losing side for Scotland in the English Benson & Hedges Cup. 1977/1978 1.
