Marshall made his debut for his third first-class side in fifteen months and avoided a third successive debut duck by the narrowest margin. Hampshire had been one of the strongest counties in the mid-1970s but were in a transitional phase, having just lost the captain Gilliat, Richards and Roberts. Marshall made a good impression with the ball and topped the county’s averages but he was less successful as a batsman. He missed some weeks in mid-season as a member of the West Indies World Cup squad but did not appear in their winning team. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 17.
