Opening brothers Eddie and Fred Cooper were both out and Bob Wyatt joined Don with the total at 22. They added 183 before Wyatt was out for 71, Don then went up a gear and, with Dick Howorth, won the game without further loss with just 15 minutes to spare. His 152 not out was scored in four and a half hours. His liking for the fine Dudley pitch, now sadly a building site for a business park, was shown with his next three figure innings, 102 when Nottinghamshire were the visitors in August. He went on to complete 1000 runs, the first of his Worcestershire record nineteen such performances in a season and was awarded his cap. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 13.
