Famous Cricketers No 51 - Don Kenyon
hours and Don lost Ron Headley when the score was 58 and was twice missed in his twenties. What happened afterwards is legend. Don was joined by 24-year-old Alan Ormrod and they added 174 in 94 minutes. Victory was secured when Don hit 21 off the last six balls with only five deliveries of the extra half-hour to spare. Against the Pakistani tourists in August he took his first and only first-class wicket when he caught and bowled Arif Butt off a skier that was in the air for what seemed a lifetime. His last appearance was at Colwyn Bay against Glamorgan when, once again with Ormrod, he shared in an unbroken second wicket partnership of 111, scoring 67 in 75 minutes in a drawn match troubled by the rain. This was his 124th century partnership for Worcestershire, still a club record. At the time of his retirement his 37,002 runs placed him 19th in the the list of batsmen with most career runs and he is currently 27th, but of all those above him he has played in fewer Test Matches. The end of a remarkable career. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 618. Worcestershire v Indians, Worcester, May 3, 4, 5 (Match drawn) b S.Guha 5 335-6d 106-8 619.
