Don had a superbly balanced attack at his disposal with Jack Flavell (158), top of the national averages, Len Coldwell (140), Norman Gifford (133) and Martin Horton (101) all taking over 100 wickets for the county. One of the highlights of the season was another double-century partnership between Don and Ron Headley, this time at Gravesend against Kent. They scored their runs, 205, at a run a minute with Headley scoring 147, 100 of them in boundaries, and Don 114, his 60th century for the county. He finished the season with 1,350 runs for Worcestershire at an average of 25.47 with a top score of 152 at Dudley against Somerset in three hours and fifty minutes with 21 fours. He shared in another fine partnership with Headley of 170 after Worcestershire had been put in to bat by Harold Stephenson, a decision he was to regret when a first innings total of 394-5 declared was reached and a 233-run defeat followed.
