Famous Cricketers No 51 - Don Kenyon

1959 During the winter Peter Richardson, the Worcestershire captain since 1956, defected to Kent and Don was appointed as his replacement. He immediately had problems when Derek Pearson was no-balled five times on the opening day of the tourist match with the Indians by umpire Syd Buller but he persevered with him and he had the best figures of 4-40 in a total of 219. Don led the side in all the Championship matches finishing 14th with six wins but was beginning to mould a title-winning side. At Portsmouth in June he completed his sixth double-century with 229 against Hampshire in six and a half hours, hitting 2 sixes and 33 fours, and by the end of the season had lifted his centuries total to 58, 54 of them for the county.
