Rain brought an end to play at Worcester in the last Championship match of the season, where Surrey were the visitors, when he was 13 not out and in September he was selected for an England X1 at Torquay against a Commonwealth X1 but the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. At Kidderminster in July he scored a career best 259, the highest score against Yorkshire this century, and inspired Worcestershire to their first ever innings 26
